Scenic and useful!
If Cornwallis had had access to the Parkway, the country might be a very different place.
The Parkway an easy route between the parks at Jamestown and Yorktown. It also provides access to the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center, small beaches along the James River, scenic overlooks, and historical markers. It's a great way to get around town if you know the ins and outs.
Lots of wildlife: Canada geese, swans, great blue herons, deer, and domestic cows and goats.
Extra points for whoever sees the windmill first.
Do not speed; you will be caught! Likewise, do not go 10 m.p.h.; you will annoy everyone.
Finally, treat it as a three-lane road, with the center lane for passing only. The joints in the road-bed are good guide. In other words, keep to the sides of the road.
(Special Note: The Parkway had been closed between Newport Avenue and Highway 199 due to erosion damage from torrential rains. It is now open!)
