Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Website: www.buschgardens.com

A top-notch theme park, located just 3 miles down the road from Colonial Williamsburg.

Note: Busch Gardens is closed for the 2006 season. It will reopen in late March, 2007.

Busch Gardens is a great theme park. While not as extensively themed as a Disney park, it's far beyond most theme parks. Different areas are themes after different countries in Europe. The rides are great, particularly the roller coasters.

The Loch Ness Monster is an old coaster, but still one of the best rides around. It showcases interlocking 360 degree loops. It also takes advantage of a river valley to achieve a surprisingly long steep drop.

Alpengeist is a great hanging coaster, smooth with plenty of inversions.

Apollo's Chariot is the coaster that Fabio rode when he got hit in the face by a bird. It's worth riding just to say you're tougher than Fabio. (Which, admittedly, isn't saying much.) It also is a nice smooth ride, with some killer drops and twists.

The food at Busch Gardens is also very good for a theme park, probably as good as you'll find at any theme park. The BBQ at the Trappers Smokehouse is quite good. So are the corned beef sandwiches at Das Festhaus. (And the oompah band is corny, but fun.)
