A really funky used bookstore. ("Funky" in a good way.)
Mermaid Books has been around for 30 years. It's located in a basement, below a gift shop. It seems to specialize in older books. Navigating the store isn't easy, as the aisles are narrow and winding. It's probably not a good place for the claustrophobic.
This isn't the place to go to find a particular book. (The classification system is a bit of a mystery.) Instead, this is the place to putter about, just browsing funky old books.
It also has other things for sale, like postcards, old photos, and even things like buttons and pendants. But the books are the main draw.
