Re-creations of Jamestown Fort, an Indian village, and the boats on which the Jamestown folks came here.
Jamestown Settlement is a great attraction. It's not as expensive as Colonial Williamsburg and is easily covered in less than a day.
While there, you'll see a great re-creation of Jamestown Fort. Be sure to check out the thatched roof on the church. Thatching is becoming a lost art.
There's also a recreation of a Powhatan Indian village. The living quarters are surprisingly cozy.
But the highlight is really the boat re-creations. They're real live floating copies of the three boats that brought the original Jamestown settlers. You can go on board and check them out in detail. Then, ponder being on these rather small ships in the middle of the Atlantic, bound for a new and unknown world.
There's also an indoor museum and movie. The movie is better than you would expect. The Museum features a good array of actual artifacts, although many displays are currently empty as they prepare for the 400th Anniversary in 2007.
Souvenirs can be had at two difference gift shops, one small, one large.
