Historic Jamestowne is the actual original site of Jamestowne.
Right now, Historic Jamestowne is a bit of a mixed bag. They're gearing up for the big 400th Anniversary in 2007. That means that the old Visitor Center is torn down. That also means that the new Visitor Center is not yet completed.
Additionally, the fairly recent digs have been closed up or are otherwise inaccessible. That leaves little there to actually see.
Which isn't to say that there's nothing here. There's still an original 17th-century church tower. There's also the Glasshouse, where they make that cool pale green Colonial glass. Finally, there's a scenic loop around the island. It makes for a nice quick bike ride. You can walk it, but bring bug spray.
Still, this should be a much better attraction as 2007 approaches.
Note that Historic Jamestowne is located on National Park land and entry isn't as cheap as it once was. If you have a National Parks pass, then you're good to go.
